Miracles For Here And Now

Our lives are full of miracles that we don*t recognize as miracles. Many Televangelists focus endless attention on comparatively insignificant and temporary issues. Good health and wealth are poor substitutes for the greater riches. And they can*t last much longer than a hundred years. When God takes a person with a self-centered, disobedient and wicked heart and changes them into a person with an unselfish, obedient and righteous heart, it is a far greater miracle than those mentioned above. And it is an eternal work.

Psalms 19:7-8: The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.

Those activities of God*s word are miraculous. Converting the soul, making wise the simple and enlightening the eyes are actions that cannot have any cause other than the Word of God, the Bible.

James 1:21: Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.

It*s only the Word of God that can save our souls and be made a permanent life-giving part of us. Having something grafted into us that saves us is miraculous.

John 6:63: It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

Our words are almost powerless by comparison. God*s Word is alive in some way that our minds and vocabulary cannot fully define. It*s power is miraculous. The Bible itself is a miracle.

Hebrews 4:12: For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

The distinction between our souls and spirits is a mysterious blur to us. It is not mysterious to God who created us or to His Word. We do not always understand our own thoughts and intentions. We are often an enigma to ourselves. Why do I prefer this? Why do I do that? God and His Word know us perfectly.

Isaiah 55:11: So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

That phrase shall not return unto me void might be compared to a fishing net that God casts out to bring the souls of men back to Himself. Nothing but God*s Word has a greater-than-rock-solid guarantee of success. No wonder God commands us to preach His Word. There is no time or circumstance when His Word is not appropriate.

2 Timothy 4:2: Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

John 7:38: He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

I*ve discovered that Bible-caused miracles can flow through us (another miracle). The Bible can create a bond between me and another Christian, a bridge to an unbeliever or a barrier between me and an unbeliever, whichever God wills.

Jamieson-Fausset-Brown Commentary:

Rain may to us seem lost when it falls on a desert, but it fulfils some purpose of God. So the gospel word falling on the hard heart; it sometimes works a change at last; and even if so, it leaves men without excuse.

Have you discovered first-hand how powerful the Bible is? Try it out. Read it or quote it to someone.
